Welcome to MAMA - The "Meet A Mum Association"
 |
|
‘The Meet A Mum Association was created to try and help thousands of mothers who feel depressed and isolated when their babies are born. From my own experience, I know that if you are suffering from postnatal depression, you find the sympathy and support of other new mothers invaluable. Somehow, no-one else seems to understand quite as well. Even if you escape ‘depression’, but simply find yourself strangely lonely, and isolated, in the new world of motherhood, the company of other mothers can bring comfort and real, lasting friendship. |
The continued success of MAMA proves that this simple formula works – and I hope the examples of the flourishing groups around the country will lead to still more MAMA groups being formed, and new friendships created through them. May I send my very best wishes to all MAMA mums.’ Esther Rantzen - Patron of MAMA
Joining MAMA
Joining MAMA is easy. You can either go along to one of the local support groups which are listed here – or if there is not a group near to you, you can become an Associate Member. Through Associate Membership you will be supporting a worthwhile charity, and will have a say in how it is run through your right to vote at the National MAMA AGMs and OGMs. You will also be kept up to date on MAMA’s work, and will be invited to join the MAMA Online Group, which is part of the forum and only accessible to Group and Associate Members. Add to that reduced rates for MAMA study days and regional training days and we are sure you will agree that at £5 per year this is excellent value.
If you would like any further information on any aspect of MAMA and/or would like to take out Associate Membership, please feel free to contact the The National Co-Ordinator.
Postnatal Supporters
We are also looking for Postnatal Supporters. Postnatal Supporters are volunteers who are willing to support mums in their area who are suffering from postnatal depression, on a one-to-one basis. Generally, most support is given via the telephone with the supporter setting any ground rules she feels are necessary – ie when she is available to be contacted etc, but some mums choose to meet up. We do try and refer mums to supporters who have had similar illnesses however, it is not essential for you to have suffered from postnatal illness to be a supporter, as the role is one of listening, acknowledging and reassuring. If you feel that you would be interested in being a postnatal supporter and would like further information, please contact The National Co-Ordinator.

MAMA has set up an online shop at www.buy.at/NationalMAMA to help with our fundraising. It has links to a number of high street and online retail outlets including M&S, Index, Thorntons, Odd Bins, Amazon, MFI and Comet to name but a few. Each order placed via these links generates commission for MAMA of between 3 and 15% of the total order. So, why not take a look around the shop. In addition to our commission, you get the convenience of shopping from the comfort of your armchair, not fighting for parking spaces, no queueing in overcrowded shops, shopping delivered to your door (some companies are even offering free delivery!) What more could you ask for?
So, log onto www.buy.at/NationalMAMA and help us with vital fundraising. Please make sure you access the sites from the links on our page only, as this is how we make our commission.
